Kitepants

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Well, another day have passed and the wind is good, the weather is good and it’s really nothing to complaing about! At the moment it’s really slow, we are just waiting for the wind. Someone is writing a new smoothie sign at the bar, some is cleaning up the beach and I am blogging. The newest invent in the kite business is Hugh’s “kitepants”, when he can’t get sun on his body. Because of his red hair and fair skin, he get’s easily burned and need to cover up all the skin. Look at the picture and you will see what I mean about kitepants. Other than that we are all waiting for the wind to show up, so we chill with party plans for the night and the weekend here at the Extreme hotel. Cheers, until next time!

Airush Protoy

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

This board is part of my personal quiver.  I was hesitant at first to get this board as the price tag was a little high.  Well, after the first few seconds riding this board you realize it was money well spent.  My first session on this board was in 40 mph side shore winds with 6′ ocean swell.  The boards stiffness handled the chop so well i felt like it was just slicing through it.  I was able to load up the edge real well and boost solid airs.  The landings were soft and i noticed that my landings did not have to be perfect due to the turned up tip and tail.  The turned up tips also help avoid any possibel face spray.  Some boards i have ridden just slam the water off the tips into my face, not this board.  Board is very light weight and the foot pads are real comfortable and easy to adjust on the fly.  Want to demo this board?  Just give us a ring and you can try the board for yourself and see how amazing it is.

F-One Fifty Pro Light Wind Board

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

I have been luckily enough to ride so many boards and I have to say, this board is incredible.  It is a dedicated lightwind board; however, i have ridden it in all conditions.  Lightwind, big ocean chop, flat water, etc. and this board really shines.  Even though it is a big wide flat board, you can barely notice it on your feet.  The board actually feels as nimble as my 135 Airush Protoy (also a sick board).  I was comfortable jumping with this and landing with ease.  If you are looking for a board to complement your smaller twintip this is the one.  Priced right and comes complete wtih really comfortable foot straps and pads.  Feel free to give us a call, we are here to help answer any questions you may have.

It’s getting hot out here!

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Well, the temperature is getting higher and higher,  the weather is perfect and the hotel is filling up! More and more kites are joining our amazing beach, and people are enjoying the perfect wind and atmosphere. This have been a hot, hot, hot day, but I’m not complaining at all, maybe a bit sunburned, but I’m not alone with that today. Hope this temperature is staying and so the cloudfree sky, and we will have many days with kiting, tanning, drinking beer in the sun and chill out, thats why we are here. Still waiting for more people to come and join us, are you coming down here soon ? It’s paradise!

The Storm and The kitesurfing.

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

Since last time we had some interesting stuff happening. The other day here it was about seven kites out on the water, and out from nothing this 35 knots wind knock some palm leafs out of place and a lot of sand in the eyes of the exited watchers . But still Alex Soto, one of the best kitesurfers in the world took out his kite and made the best of the awsome and scary wind. And when the wind got too crazy we all gathered inside the bar and enjoyed warm coffee and beers.
Beside that it have been great out there, new students getting really good and the Extreme Hotel is getting more and more people. This new girl, Amanda, just started working here, finally some more girls around.
Its getting less norwegian students here now, and soon Im probably the only norwegian hanging out here, but in a while the next group will enter Cabarete. No matter what, its so cool hanging out here and the nightlife is still the same. So need to go cheering for some students! And hope seeing some more people here soon!

Chilling and kitesurfing

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

New day, new possibilitys. After yesterday picked up to decent kitesurf wind the hope was still strong today even if the morning was slow. But before we knew it the wind was strong and kites showed up all over our paradise beach! Many students get to try new things and people done with their lessons trained on new goals in their kitesurfing. One of our students, Tucker did some amazing  jumps, and the rest of us sitting and chilling on the beach cheering for him! Anyway, the atmosphere is awesome and people are coming in to the bar after a long day kiting grabbing a “Presidente”, the local favorite beer… Salut! Thanks for a perfect day Cabarete!

Windy days!

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

So , finally we had some days in a row with good, strong and stable wind thats good for learning and the pros. Once in a while the wind gets gusty and really strong, but even if we cant go out the pro riders come out and entertain us with crazy and impressing tricks and big jumps. Yesterday we had good wind and a lot of students signing up for learning kiting with our amazing gear.

Today:

Kitebeach, Cabarete.    The shop.      .The view from the shop today, Quiet and nice.  The view from the shop.

Today, Wednesday, started with rain and clouds, but it will probably still be a good day of kiting. If not we will all chill out on the beach and relax in the bean bags and drink some beer!

RRD Obsession 12m, 2009

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

We have been flying the RRD Obsession for a few months now and are really stoked on this kite.  Awesome big easy to fit kite in bag, super fast and easy one pump kite with fast complete kite deflate.  You dont have to sit there for 20 minutes pushing air out of each strut before packing it away, it deflates super fast.  Solid build construction all around.  Bar is nice and clean with a fast easy to activate chicken release with super fast reload.  I personally like the fast turning and responsiveness of this kite.  It reacts like a C kite but has so many SLE safety features.  No hassle in choosing which knot to attach your lines to as there are no choices; i like the simplicity of that.  Easy relaunch in the water just by slightly pulling an outside line.  I have executed some huge loafty jumps on this kite and it find it kite loops pretty fast but slow enough that it gets somewhat deep in the window for that amazing power pull.  All around a great kite with TONS of low end grunt and good upper wind range.  This is a solid choice for intermediate to advanced riders.

F-One Revolt Review 11m

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

The 2009 11M F-ONE REVOLT as tested by Paul, Cabarete, Dominican Republic.

PROS
* The Revolt has really killer graphics on the kite.
* I really like the kite bag too, it’s functional and cool looking.
* The build quality all around seems tough and durable.
* The bar is simple and comfortable.
* Kite line setup is quick and easy because there are only three lines for half your walk from bar to kite.
* The kite is stable and wants to fly.
* The Revolt is super easy to water re-launch, even when crashed directly downwind. Pulling on one outside line immediately brings the kite to the edge of the wind window where it waits for you to sheet out and fly it upward.
* The design resists a lot of stalling, even when the lines go slack as you pass underneath the kite.
* Powering and depowering the kite is done with one simple pulling motion on the straps.
* The Revolt has an impressive wind range with plenty of power on tap.
* The center line is sheathed as it comes through the bar, thus eliminating a lot of rubbing and chafing on your hands.
* Hang time and jump height is huge, impressive and fun.
* The Revolt feels comfortable, stable and safe.

CONS
* The outside/back line steering connections at the kite are super secure feeling with plastic stopper balls, while those of the front/depower lines seem insecure without the stoppers. This is also the same with the Bandit Dos.
* The power and depower straps seem a bit too far out of reach.
But, worst of all……
* People will want to steal your kite because it’s so fun to fly.
* You may want to sell every other kite you own and buy an F1 instead.
